Shift of Earth’s Magnetic North Pole Impacts Tampa Airport

Tampa Int. Airport

The Tampa Tribune

TAMPA – Scientists say the magnetic north pole is moving toward Russia and the fallout has reached — of all places — Tampa International Airport.

The airport has closed its primary runway until Jan. 13 to repaint the numeric designators at each end and change taxiway signage to account for the shift in location of the Earth’s magnetic north.

The closure of the west parallel runway will result in more activity on the east parallel runway and more noise for residential areas of south Tampa.

  1. It is interesting to note that the U.S. Army Air Force took this airport over in WWII (it was called ‘Drew Army Airfield’). I would hypothesise that this was the time that the designators, based upon their current magnetic data (circa 1940′s), gave out the 180/360 labels.
According to the charts updated in May 2010, this runway is now at 186 degrees/6 degrees, hence crossing the median to the NEW label (19R/1L [190 degrees right/10 degrees left].
The ‘variance’ of ‘Magnetic North’ is not just a ‘right to left’ shift, but also a ‘North to South’ shift, as well.
According to aviation charts, the ‘variance’ in magnetic North is listed as a tenth of a dergee to the West, per year. This would equate to a shift of 7 degrees left, over the period of 1940-2010.

In the past decade, magnetic pole shift has been noticably accelerating. Also, the field appears to be getting noticeably weaker, according to high-placed scientific sources.
These facts seem to be adding up to a conclusion which tends to support the ‘Solar Minimum’ hypothesis of what appears to be ‘global cooling’, as foretold in about 1974, or so.

A period of a rapid ‘pole shift’ MIGHT be approaching.
