A letter issued by Hawaii Milk farmers advises other milk farmers to treat their milk with boron after local dairies detected Japan nuclear radiation in milk at 400 to 2400 times the recognized safe levels.

An open letter from dairy farmers on the Big Island of Hawaii shares some solutions for working with radiation problems in milk.

Big Island Dairy Farmers fight radiation with Boron

An open letter from dairy farmers on the Big Island of Hawaii shares some solutions for working with radiation problems in milk.

Dear Milk Share Members,
Our goal to offer high quality safe food to our community has recently been challenged in the reality of the radioactivity being released into our environment. In the past weeks radioactive levels have increased in Hawaii, with high spikes and a more current leveling off of radiation levels. Milk from the large dairies in Hamakua and Hawi has shown elevated levels of radiation, from 400 to 2400 times the recognized safe levels.

Aside from the much recognized supplement potassium iodine as a protection against radioactive iodine, there are a number of ways we can help. We have remembered our friend, elemental boron and the position it plays on the earth. Boron is the only mineral capable of accepting and ionizing radiation that never changes the innards or the nucleus of the cell. Spoken simply, boron can take radiation and release it without upsetting its own very delicate balance.

Boron is used extensively in the nuclear industry. Sodium borate is regularly used for standby liquid control systems, in case of emergencies. It was used in Cheronbyl in 1986 mixed with sand to prevent further radiation leakage. It was also used in 1999 in Tokaimura, Japan, to absorb the massive amounts of radiation after an accident at a plant. Currently it is being dumped on fuel rods and in surrounding waters of the Fukushima plant. Boron is widely recognized as extremely safe and can be used to capture radioactivity on our soils, gardens, orchards, etc. It also can be safely ingested by humans and animals. Boron will accept radiation and ionize it within our bodies, after which our bodies will safely excrement the boron and radioactivity.

The reason? Levels of radiation were supposedly dropping and posed no health risks.

Nuclear Expert: EPA Abandoning Radiation Monitoring To Ensure There Are No Measurements Above Levels Of Concern

Cows eating grass contaminated with from highly radioactive rain produce milk contaminated with Japan Nuclear radiation and being sold on US shore shelves.

The Bay Citizen quotes Daniel Hirsch, a nuclear policy lecturer at the University of California, Santa Cruz, as saying the EPA is purposely abandoning radiation monitoring to ensure that radiation measurements can be taken that will not be above levels of concern. Hirsch is also quoted as saying “I really am horrified” about the “staggering” EPA announcement that the EPA will return to testing radiation levels in rainwater, drinking water and milk every three months.

That means the next radiation tests aren’t planned to take place until August . The EPA’s announcement was made even in the face of the fact that the  levels of radiation being released from the Fukushima nuclear power plant have just hit an all time high and radiation levels detected in independent milk samples in  the US continue to rise.

The abandonment of radiation testing by the feds also comes on the heels of an announcement from a top environmental scientists that food across the entire United States will be affected by the Fukushima nuclear radioactive fallout and an analysis from Japan’s top nuclear expert that reactors 1, 2 and 3 have all suffered a complete nuclear meltdown.

Feds Abandon Extra Radiation Monitoring of Milk, Water

Routine measurements will resume; nuclear expert calls decision “staggering”

[...]

The U.S. government has abandoned efforts to monitor elevated levels of radiation that infiltrated the nation’s water and milk in the wake of a nuclear catastrophe in Japan.

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has faced stiff criticism for its slow and spotty monitoring of radioactive iodine, cesium and other materials that were ejected into the atmosphere after the Fukushima nuclear power plant was struck by a tsunami in early March. The material fell on the United States in rainwater and was ingested by cows, which passed it through into their milk.

It’s not the cattle that are being given boron, it’s not being put into milk.

This posting prompts me to inform the public about other areas of concern. While radiation in milk is indeed a serious issue, so is radiation in any of our foods that the public consume.

While everyone has taken note of the milk because of the measurements noted, someone should immediately begin to assess just how all this increased levels of radiation will effect the pineapple industry, almond growers, wine industry and all the grapes, raisins and mostly the wine that will be made from contaminated wine grapes that will sold for consumers to drink.

While the California wine industry has been quiet about all this radioactive concern, their silence is viewed as protecting their profits from annual sales of wine which appear to moving ahead as if Japan had ever happened.

Almonds, oranges, wine grapes, celery, and any number of other California crops are all impacted by the increasing radioactive measurements.

It is time to assess the other industries as to what will impact the long term consumers of such products. I mean really, do you not care what is in that refreshing and expensive bottle of wine? Well I do, and so should the public.

To begin this process, we should demand that the wine industries and food growers exhibit moral decisions about their grapes and wines because to sell them to the public knowing it will eventually kill all those that consume it, is taking greed and corporatism to the level of evil and immorality that this nation is already tired of and in need of some relief from.

Begin asking the wine industry about how all this radioactivity will effect their wines and you will quickly see that once again, greed and profits matter more than the public’s safety.

It is this type of business greed that has already helped to undermine what is good for America and we can expect that big business will never accept a big hit in the profits margin unless the public demands it.

Hold all those that provide foods or drinks to the public accountable, but to be fair, we should also hold criminally accountable those corporations and elected officials that promote nuclear energy at the expense of public safety.

As a reminder, remember that we cant eat the shrimp or sea food from the Gulf of Mexico even though they have declared it fit for human consumption and so the next time you are having some white fish and some wine that what you are eating is as risky as playing Russian roulette with three bullets instead of one.

Please ask about the wine and other California food items. Only by doing so will the nation begin to see that all this radioactive concern will be aggravated by those in big business that will not admit that their products are in any way contaminated to the point of public concern.

Stop the madness and stop those industries that would endanger the public’s health and long term safety. Question that fine wine the next time to drink a bottle and consider if it is contaminated or not and whether you have the right to know if you are drinking radioactive poison that will soon kill you in cancerous ways.
