NASA Downgrades Condition Code of Asteroid YU55 – Unsure of Trajectory

NASA tracks and has been tracking all near earth objects (NEO’s) and the data is reflected on NASA’s Jet Propulsion Lab’s (JPL’s) website.

What is interesting is the NEO object designated  2005 YU55 has now has had a change in the  ”condition code” in JPL’s data.

Chart Via NASA’s JPL Website

Condition codes are on a scale of 1-9 and are used to determine the accuracy of the known or calculated flight path.

The higher the number (lets use 9 as an example) would mean that NASA is very unsure of the path the object might fly or deviate to — a zero would be a for sure calculation.

Back in June of 2011 the condition code for 2005 YU55 was a 7, in August it was a six.

For the past few months the condition code of 2005 YU55 has been “0″ (zero), which meant a for sure miss of the moon and planet.

As of now the condition code has been downgraded to a 2 — meaning that after calculating the gravitational effects of the moon and earth on 2005YU55 NASA is unsure what the outcome might be — or at least publicly.

The following is taken from the JPL Website that you used:
    fit RMS .40482
It is a measure of certainty, and that .40482 means very poor. .9 and above would be a high degree of certainty.
RMS is Root Mean Square, and I take this to mean that the data is fitting the projections poorly as it comes in. In plain English, the model ain’t working so hot.

Well said!! A 0.40 RMS is indeed a very poor fit of the projected trajectory data. In other words, NASA has no f***ing clue where YU55 is going to go at this point. Well….they HAVE a clue but the fit to the data WE can view is not working so well. The data THEY are using (and we cannot see) I’m SURE shows a high degree of certainty (that is, a 0.9 RMS)
Hey…who knows. Will make for a fun couple of days and who wants to live a life of comfort and saffety anyway (besides rich Conservative Republicans)?

Besides rich Republicans? Do you know how much Nancy Pelosi makes? Democrats are swindling vipers.
